Lost income of authors. About markets without any return on investment for authors (“Das verlorene Einkommen von Autor:innen. Über Märkte, bei denen die Rechnung ohne Schreibende gemacht wird“)
Everyone is talking about appropriate remuneration for authors. There are many efforts to achieve it, but just as often it is demanded that authors make their works available for little or nothing – at least for the so-called public. Two recent studies from France and Germany now show markets without any return on investment for authors. Some food for thought by Nicole Pfister Fetz, Secretary General of the European Writers’ Council (EWC).
17:00-18:00, hall 3.1, stand F122
Networking Cocktail
The Swiss Authors’ Association A*dS and the EWC, in collaboration with the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, invite authors and colleagues from the book sector and from other international authors’ organisations to a networking cocktail with prosecco and snacks. All EWC members, authors or colleagues from twin organisations are invited, no registration necessary.

Generative KI, fair und menschenwürdig – geht das? (Generative AI, fair and humane – is that possible?, panel in German)
So-called generative “artificial intelligence (AI)” is based on copyright infringment and ‘intelligence’ is only simulated by this technology. This is the view of increasingly critics. In a panel discussion, Prof Dr Peter G. Kirchschläger, Professor of Ethics and Director of the Institute for Social Ethics ISE, University of Lucerne (Switzerland), and Visiting Professor at ETH Zurich, and Nina George, international bestselling author and Political Commissioner of the EWC, explain which internationally recognised rules are needed to campaign exploitation and intellectual disenfranchisement through ChatGPT etc. Moderation: Nicole Pfister Fetz, Secretary General of the EWC.
