Presentation of the tandem report

“Copyright and Training of AI models – technical and legal foundations”

AI, and in particular generative AI, offers many opportunities and possibilities. But many fundamental questions remain unanswered. This is why Initiative Urheberrecht (Authors‘ Rights Initiative), together with partner organizations, commissioned Prof. Dr. Tim W. Dornis (University of Hanover) in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Sebastian Stober (University of Magdeburg) with a tandem report on how AI training works from both the technical and the copyright perspective. In order to analyse the problem comprehensively, they have jointly shed light on the black box of the processing steps of protected materials in AI training. Accordingly, they will be able to answer many open questions on protected materials in a well-founded, reliable manner as well as in accordance with the current state of innovation.

The report will be presented first on 5 September in Brussels. The EWC takes part with Secretary General Nicole Pfister Fetz and the Coordinator Zsuzsánna Dóczy.
