THE EWC ELECTED A NEW BOARD FOR THE TERM 2023-2025

The new EWC Board 2023-2025 together with the Coordinator and future Secretary-General.

The General Assembly and Congress Days of the EWC-FAEE AISBL took place in Berlin from 2 to 4 of June 2023. 62 Delegates from 23 Countries and 34 Organisations elected a new Board: Miguel Ángel Serrano is elected as new President, outgoing President Nina George was appointed as EWC’s first President of Honor.

The Elected Board for the term 2023-2025 is composed by:

  • Miguel Ángel Serrano: President (Vice President 2021-2023)
  • Maïa Bensimon: First Vice President (re-elected, Vice President 2021-2023)
  • Eystein Hanssen: Second Vice President (re-elected, Board Member 2021-2023)
  • Members of Board are: Alena Makouskaya (re-elected, Board Member since 2019, Belarus), Monika Pfundmeier (Germany), Paula Havaste (Finland) and Arno Jundze (Latvia).

The Elections were conducted by the Election Committee under the leadership of Katherine Mezzacapa (Irish Writers Union).

In an emotive ceremony, the outgoing President Nina George (2019-2023) was appointed as the first official President of Honor of the European Writers’ Council, and as Commissioner for Political Affairs, to company future projects and ongoing advocacy of the federation.

During the Congress Days in Berlin the Delegates could attend to a Welcome Reception held at the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin / Unter den Linden and also to the EWC Burning Issues Forum focused on Artificial Intelligence, where several experts on ethics, economy or intellectual property participated in the various debates that took place.

Five new members were welcomed to the European Writers’ Council:

–– Authors’ Association Austria / IG Autorinnen Autoren, Austria
–– Association of Writers of Macedonia / Друштво на писателите на Македонија, North Macedonia
–– National Union Of Authors / SNAC, France
–– Danish Authors of Fiction and Poetry / Danske Skønlitterære Forfattere, Denmark
––La Scam, France
The EWC consists now of 49 organisations from 33 countries in the EU and EEA area, including Iceland, Norway, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, representing over 220.000 writers of all genres, and is the largest federation worldwide, solely representing writers from the book sector.

The AGM days in Berlin were co-sponsored by VG Wort, KulturWerk e.V. together with the Verband deutscher Schriftsteller*innen (VS in ver.di) and the Staatsbibliothek Unter den Linden.
