The Swiss Nicole PFISTER FETZ, new Secretary-General
of EWC

Since this month of July, the Swiss art historian and experienced cultural lobbyist Nicole Pfister Fetz is the new Secretary-General of European Writers’ Council (EWC), the only federation speaking on behalf of the professional interests and needs of European writers in the text and book sector in all genres.

The new Secretary-General: a Swiss art historian and experienced cultural lobbyist

Nicole Pfister Fetz has a University degree in history of art and history. After working in museums, for independent cultural projects and further education programmes in the nonprofit sector, Nicole Pfister Fetz was the managing director of the Swiss professional writers’ and translators’ association A*dS Autrices et auteurs de Suisse from 2007 to 2023 and a board member of the collective rights management organisation ProLitteris and of the umbrella association of Swiss artists associations Suisseculture. She has published numerous articles in the fields of the history of art, cultural studies and the politics of literature and is a guest lecturer at various universities and colleges – among others, for cultural lobbying at the University of Basel. In addition to her new task as EWC Secretary-General, Nicole Pfister Fetz remains president of the Society of Swiss art history (GSK) and of Suisseculture Sociale (an umbrella organisation of cultural associations with the aim to improve the social security of cultural workers in Switzerland).
As a result, Nicole Pfister Fetz has established and maintains cultural-political and interdisciplinary networks on a regional, national, and international level, brings in broad knowledge of cultural support and promotion and is experienced in leadership and management. Also, her scientific and journalistic activities are clear benefits.

“Doing the rights thing”

In full collaboration with the Board of EWC and the recently elected president Miguel Ángel Serrano, a Spanish poet, writer and consultant, Nicole Pfister Fetz will be the continuity in a frequent changing environment, the backbone of the EWC interests, and the representative of the diverse community of European writers and translators in the book sector.

“Doing the rights thing since 1977″, the slogan of the EWC, will also be my future guiding principle. In times of upcoming generative Informatics as so-called AI, it becomes more important to defend writers and their human created contents. I am ready to dedicate my passion and my political skills to serve and promote the needs and interests of European writers”, says Nicole Pfister Fetz, who has been delegate of a EWC member organisation for more than 16 years. Therefore, she is familiar with the EWC, and its aims and internal mechanism.
